Ford Sierra Cossworth

I believe that a good street car is a machine which is mecanically excellent, a tournament winner and
can be driven everyday.  Turbocharging turns otherwise boring cars into exciting machines to drive.

One of the cars that fits this description is the Ford Sierra RS 500, it is afordable and has enough power and handling to blow away anything in its class on the road. A good example of this model can be had for around A$40,000 in Australia.

I have been a fan of these magnificient motor cars since they went unbeaten for 2 years in a row
in the Australian group A circuit.
 

•     1988: Tony Longhurst/Thomas Mezera (Ford Sierra RS500).

•     1989: Dick Johnson/John Bowe (Ford Sierra RS500).

    This is Glenn Seatons 580 Bhp RS500 complete               The sedan version called Saphire, in stock form
    with 6 speed Holinger Gearbox. This particular               these came with a 220Hp engine, recaro race seats.
    model was raced in 1992.                                                 electric windows, sunroof, alarm and inmobilizer.

The chassis is based around a  hatchback and it is basically equipped with a beautiful
2 litre cossworth designed engine. It is turbocharged and it has 16 valves. These motors have been
known to produce 580HP when tuned for Group A racing, this handy power comes on brutally
as the tacho hits 4000 rpm and goes all the way to the red line. Because of their lightweight, in
these conditions these cars are a handful in the wet.

I am not strictly a Ford fan and I'd prefer to drive a General Motors product but I don't know of any
cars made by that company that will fit the bill. A fairly small car powerful and good handler.

Nissan Pulsar  ET Turbo

I Used to own the Nissan ET Turbo below, this is a small Australian front wheel drive car and has a 1.5 Lt engine.
It has 8 valves and in stock form is good for about 100Hp (77Kw) in a 940Kg car this is not bad, good for mid 16s.

Nissan Sylvia

Another beauty from Nissan, the Sylvias are the japanese counterparts to the 200SX sold in Australia, except
they are lighter and have pretty much the same mechanicals

As you can see, this machine is absolutely gorgeous, the slimline profile gives it a low center of gravity together with an excellent engine gives it very good performance indeed.

It comes with either a 1.8 Lt engine or a 2 lt engine.
In 2 Lt form it puts out a healthy 154Kw (205bhp) 275Nm, all this pushing a 1160 Kg body and you start getting the idea.
In 1.8Lt form it puts out 134Kw (175bhp) 225Nm, with a 1210 Kg body is no slug either.
